Seattle Maritime partners with Latino Civic Alliance
The Seattle Office of Economic Development recently awarded the Seattle Maritime Academy a grant to fund efforts in assisting students of color with the costs of education and in diversifying the academy and maritime workforce.
SMA has partnered with the Latino Civic Alliance to award 6 full-ride scholarships to the academy for 2024-25 academic year. The OED grant will also aid scholarship recipients with transportation, housing, and childcare costs.
With the use of OED grant funds, Seattle Maritime Academy also plans to increase exposure to its programs and the industry’s livable wages by expanding its outreach to local schools, organizations, and community events.
SMA offers one-year programs in two areas of study, each running from September to June and featuring a 90-day at-sea internship. As a program of Seattle Central College, SMA students are eligible for FAFSA, loans, G.I. bills, workforce development grants, and other forms of tuition assistance.
Eligibility, application status, and scholarship distribution to be reviewed and decided by Latino Civic Alliance. If you are interested in applying, please contact Jackie Lomeli at jackie@latinocivicalliance.org or call 206.741.7803.
